A Visualization Exercise

Updated: Aug 27, 2022

Before we start - it may help to listen some music to set the mood.

Or maybe have a cup of tea or coffee by your side. I find that to be quite relaxing at times.

---

Start by treating yourself to a satisfying stretch. Go ahead. It is time to loosen up and stretch so you can begin to reclaim your energy.

That’s right.

Allow your body to relax. Settle yourself into whatever you’re sitting or lying on. Take a nice big breath, fill your lungs, and breathe out to let go from deep inside...

And now, follow your breath in... and out... in... and out... - allowing each breath to refresh you on many levels.

With your eyes closed or barely open, shift your attention away from the world around you to your world of sensations and imagination.

Feel free to take a deep breath in... And sigh it all the way out.

Now, let your imagination take you.

---

Imagine yourself walking on a trail through a forest. The path is soft beneath your feet, covered by fallen leaves, petals, and earth. As you walk, your body starts to relax. And your mind gets clearer with each step you take.

Breathe in the fresh air, filling your lungs.

Now exhale.

Breathe out all the air.

Feeling refreshed.

Deeply and slowly, inhale and exhale as you walk through the woods within your dreams.

The air is cool but comfortable.

Moonlight filters through the trees, creating a moving mottled pattern on the ground before you.

---

It’s a beautiful day outside.

Birds are singing.

Flowers are blooming.

On days like these, wouldn’t it be a perfect time to take a walk out there?

---

As you walk through the visualization, you pause in front of an antique, rusted gate.

You look around.

The roses have climbed and climbed until they hand over the walls and gates and creep over the ground - like a strange silver mist. Some of them have perished, but many are still alive. And when summer comes - they will be veils and fountains of roses, pink, coral, and galore. You can also see the wood sorrels, snowdrops, and irises work their way out through the dark.

And many trees have needles that look very soft and very green. The forest floor is thick, luminous green moss. Some leaves are deep, dark forest green. You easily tread along the smooth rocks on the path, feeling one with nature.

You hear the sound of water faintly far away — the gentle sound of a bubbling stream just past the gate.

---

You notice the gate is unlocked. Cautiously, you push past the door and take a few steps past.

---

You see a tall tree growing in front of you. And notice many other trees around you. Some have smooth, white bark - and others are darker with coarse, heavy bark. Enjoy the many combinations of colors on the trees - from scarlet to tan to black and white.

Now smell the air around you. Take in the scents of the wildflowers, trees, soil, and mountain rivers.

As you turn past the corner, the rushing stream gets louder. And you see a clearing in the trees ahead.

There, a beautiful outlook point awaits.

You are growing tired from your journey. Your body feels pleasantly tired and heavy.

Imagine yourself walking towards the clearing. Some stepping stones make an easy path across the stream and towards another distant footpath. Step on each sizeable flat rock to easily cross the small, shallow stream.

---

Your ears start to pick up on the sound of falling water past the stream, which sparks your curiosity even further.

So you run towards it, curious to find the source of the sounds you hear.

You pause and take in the scenery before you.

The sun gradually rises, dyeing the skies a soft magenta.

There are multiple waterfalls on floating islands that fell to a bottomless abyss.

And what else can you see? Perhaps there’s a rainbow wave of dancing wildflowers within a silver moon.

Perhaps the aromas of the woods come alive. The air is refreshing and filled with the scents of petrichor and plants.

The light streams down through the trees, casting shadows here and there.

The air tingles and everything sparkles with life.

Breathe in... and breathe out.

With each breath you take, you feel more radiant and rejuvenated.

Take a few moments to rest before continuing.

Some trees had crystalline petals instead of leaves. And a tall one, in particular, had glowing mushrooms growing on them, almost like a staircase.

You focus your eyes on them.

You reach out a hand to touch the petals.

What do they feel to you? Do they instantly shatter? Do they feel cold and hard to touch? Or do they feel soft and gentle despite their appearance?

Taking in a breath, you start to climb the staircase.

The mushrooms guide you out of the tree... onto a large, smooth rock... like a chair waiting for you to rest. The stone is placed perfectly, high up on this beautiful vantage point.

Take some time to explore the place you’re in… how large it is… what you notice on the horizon… what the air is like…what sort of plants and animals are present.

Sit or lie down on the flat rock if that’s what you desire. As you stay on it for a while, you start to feel very comfortable and at ease.

In front of you in the distance, you see mountains in the distance. Faint and blue, behind a brilliant lake as its aquamarine waves slowly wash up against the rock.

The moon shines in the distance.

The crystallized petals sometimes drift through, shattering the second they hit the ground.

The clearing around you comprises rocks, soil, pine needles, moss, and grass.

And in front of you... you see a flower.

---

Does it remind you of anything?

You may imagine any flower you wish... whether that be a rose… lily… hyacinth… orchid… tulip… hydrangea... anything.

Gently gaze at it without straining your eyes… Look softly at the shapes of the flower, stem, and leaves… Observe their colors.

Become aware of the textures and shapes of the petals. Look at the leaves and the buds. Observe the flower as a light, warm breeze sways it softly from side to side.

---

Feel the sunbeams warm up your body as you relax on the rock and enjoy the relaxing landscape.

You feel warm and heavy as you continue to breathe clean, fresh air.

Once again, follow your breath in... and out... in... and out...

The morning dawn ascends upon you.

Now take in a few deep breaths.

You feel tranquil.

At ease.

Calm and in unity with your surroundings.

Enjoy this peaceful place as long as you want.

---

And within this safe space, you begin feeling lighter and more energetic as life pulses within you.

You are always welcome to come back here repeatedly - as your experience deepens and grows.

---

As you reawaken, remember to keep the feeling of tranquility and relaxation with you.

When you are ready, shrug your shoulders.

Stretch if you want to.

And be full of life and energized to continue with courage, knowing that you can certainly handle what’s ahead with utmost confidence.
